Downers are red or blue ones? Definitely not Black

By Kyle Wiberg | Aug 16, 2008

Race name: National Championships Downers Grove, Masters 4/5
Race date: Saturday, Aug 16, 2008

Downers Grove 2008 Masters 4/5, nice weather, a great course, and great teammates combined for a terrifically fun afternoon.  But what I really wanted to say was thanks to my teammates.  Mike S, Newt, and Chris S.  The tactics were impressive. Mike S made an impressive attack from the bottom of the kicker at turn 3 and reeled in a nice $40 cash prime.  Newt got in a break, and we all tried blocking.  Unfortunately, the two other dudes with Newt had no idea what to do once they got up there with him.  Break was broken.  Three laps to go, the field was back together.  Last lap, I picked about the same spot as Mike S to attack, and it worked.  The men must have passed out pillows and sang some lullabies to put the whole field to sleep for me.  I got a huge gap down the hill and made the pace car hit the turbo.  Surreal when you’re thinking about how to pass the pace car.  Maybe, it was a messenger’s reaction.  Regardless, my first road season in 18 years has been great, and I hope to carry it thru Oakbrook into Cyclocross season.

But cheers to xXx for adding another win as a team effort.  Also, big, huge tremendous thanks to Luke for laying all the instructions out there.  It is completely unbelievable how much work Luke puts into not only making the road racing community better, but also his team.  Serious Luke, your help is greatly appreciated!  Also, thanks really go to the upper classmen at the core of the team who are doing an excellent job of leading this team by example.  A win for us lower classmen is only an example that you have us pointed in the right direction.
