Third race of the week-end,
races are becoming my training rides, the more I keep trying to feel the tension of the competition the more I like it and my condition is getting a bit better at every event.
Nice circuit at Glencoe,
turn 1 fine, 2 a bit weird, 3 and 4 easy and 5 with a dent just at the corner, a couple of large sewer metal caps and one stupid 3D thick drop of asphalt that gave some problems. ( the girls later crashed at their last lap and I believe that Alberto’s rider hit that thick drop and lost her front wheel grip)
Back to my 5s
I wanted to start at the line and it was a good idea, at the first turn the end of the pack crashed and I didn’t heard a thing, I discovered after finished.
My first 2 laps were really good, I could stay upfront and enjoyed the pleasant feeling to cross the finish line ahead of the pack, for almost the whole race I remained within the first 5 to 7 wheels so I made it to reach my target to keep up with the front.
At about 20 some minutes from the start my gasping increased dramatically and I imploded....
In Italian we say “dalle stelle alle stalle” from the stars to the stables…
My speed dropped and I felt my bike, wheels and legs as heavy as if made of granite,
A kid from the back came by at a moderate speed and I made it to get his wheel right at the hated turn against the wind,
we worked together the last 3 laps gaining some decent speeds and sprinted (yesterday I had a successful sprint sticking my bike in between two red uniforms that gave for dead too early, today I didn’t made it :-(
My final position was 24th, considering that was a longer Cat 5 race I am satisfied with my staying upfront for several laps, one of us got a 3rd and another a 5th place, I love to think that for at list some minutes I made it to help them.
I’ve to learn a lot, hope to understand quickly the dynamics of team work so I can be more effective.
Bikes are exiting!
